John Steinbeck s Grapes Of Wrath Essay - 1006 Words

Identify one of John Steinbeck’s themes in Grapes of Wrath. Using in-text citations, analyze how three scenes clearly convey this theme. One of John Steinbeck’s themes in the novel Grapes of Wrath is the irresistible need for familial replacement. Whenever a family member of the Joads dies or departs from the family, they are not able to compensate emotionally and therefore resort to replacing the family member with a stranger from the road. He first conveys this theme when the Joads pick up the Wilsons in Chapter 13, when Grampa dies. As he dies, the Joads feel an almost primal urge to replace him, to help others in payment for his death. And so, on page 148, they decide to pick up the Wilsons and bring them to California: â€Å"Joads and Wilsons crawled westward together as a unit† (page 163). However, when the Wilsons are no longer able to carry on, the family also suffers another two losses. Granma dies and Noah stays behind, convinced he can make a living by himself. The family is crushed, but since they are unable to mourn, they seek out emotional compensation from strangers. On page 243, the Joads land in Hooverville, a small town with many camping families seeking a new life in California. Al finds a friend in Floyd Knowles, who lends the Joads a tip about work up in Santa Clara valley. Before the family can decide whether or not to travel 200 miles, Floyd aggravates a police officer for existing. Casy takes the blame, and the preacher is carted away from the Joads. I test the network cables we created by plugging one end of the cable on unoccupied port in a switch and the other end must also be plugged on unoccupied port of another switch. If the each light on the corresponding ports flashes, it means that both ends of the cables worked successfully. Installation of Tight VNC remoting software with client-type setting We installed all PC in each department with VNC software but with custom settings (e. g we may be able to just remote their PC to access some admin files without confusingly locating their respective unit/place anymore. PC domain checking We were asked to check the PC-domain names and if they are joined in their respective domains. We logged in as administrator on each computer so that we may be able to update and synchronise them (if there are any changes of information) according to the plan list given to us. OJT is an essential part of their chosen career, but this will also show the reality of working in that kind of industry. Their OJT should occur in the work place or a company that would treat you as a regular employee. This training would also serve as a chance to realize if they can truly apply what they have learned in school, may it be theories or computation. The company can also benefit a lot from student so that they can bring in fresh ideas on what to improve and what they can observe in their company, since students still have an active imagination they can thought of ways to further improve a certain work. This is also an additional manpower for the  company, with lesser labor cost or have no labor cost at all depending on the company. There are important factors that an OJT can do for a student, hence for the company also. One is if you did a great job on your OJT that leave the company impressed with your work, chances are they will absorb you in their company or offer you a job after you have graduated. OJT also serve as a background, since applying for a job, most company look at where y ou have done your internship if you have the basic knowledge about the industry’s work, if you could apply what you have learn in that company to their company. Another is that if you have made that company a part of your reference list in your resume, they could ask them if you have done well in your work, while you were doing your OJT in their company, and then there would be a high chance of getting the job if the company put on a good word for you, especially if there will be a tight competition between job seekers and high standard qualifications of company. This will also help us inspire to participate in programs, such as company activities like values or company seminar; this would benefit the trainees in the near future, since this program help develop a person attitude and behavior, and knowledge. OJT also serve as guide when you start to work in a company especially if they are under the same industry, you can use your experience and observation in order for you to adjust in their company. This will also provide a clear idea if there will be a worthy employee or employer to bring out their success or that can utilize their skill. Another importance is that if what you have learn in school can be applied in the company, since there will be instances that you will realize the things you have learn in school is just something that can be done on a big company or a small company. This is also a great help for the company since there are strategies that can be applied, for example if you happened to notice that the company lack the control of wastage, then you can try to recommend to them one of the strategies that the Toyota company that is employing the TPS also known as lean production, where they will decrease the number of wastage to increase the company efficiency. This part of your curriculum truly is an important factor as we grow and land some jobs someday, especially those jobs that is similar to the company you have done your OJT. Learning the importance of OJT truly is a remarkable thing for us students, but we should also be familiar with the objectives on why we need to do the On-the-job training. There are multiple objectives in OJT that can bring out the best of a students’ performance. One of these objectives are to bring out the best of their skill and knowledge in a work based environment that can provide them a clear understanding and experience or on what to expect on the real employment world. This would also improve the confidence, self-esteem and self-confidence of an individual, thereby enhancing their capabilities to interact with people and co-workers, increasing your interpersonal skills and relationship with people, on how to engage a bond between the employees and to you. Also one of the objectives of having an OJT is to further exercise the strategies and ability to think of approaches in order to further improve the way you work or for the company. This would be a significant exposure for trainees to access in employing themselves in the various sectors of the company such as, finance, paper works, field work, and more. These objectives will be goals for a trainee to accomplish in order for them to survive the real world. These are the objectives and importance that I think would be useful for all students that will engage in their practicum, this will also help them realize that everytime that they pushed back or pulled down they should understand for an employee to succeed in life they should learn how to stand backup. The duration of the OJT will depend on the school and if the company can meet that time requirement since there are companies who only accommodate OJT trainees for a short period of time or perhaps a long period of time. But mostly of the trainees they only require 240hours to accomplish the said task. As for me a trainee I am tasked to complete 240 hours duration of a company, accomplishing their goals and requirements. My OJT would start at April 10 and would end at May 21, 2012, completing 8 hours per day within 30 days of work. I was assigned in Mt. For about the first eight months I only hung around my family because I had no other way of talking to kids that were my age. I lived in Chicago, and attended a public school there. Within six to eight months of attending school I began to speak English fluently, after living in Chicago for about two years our family moved again but this time it was to Oak Lawn. Me moving to a new country gave me the opportunity to experience something new, something that I have not had the opportunity to experience before. The lack of knowing a language inspired me to learn to understand my new classmates and surroundings. Currently I am a good student and I understand the English language better than Polish. Eventually, I became a citizen and now I am able to fully participate in the things that I am entitled to do in this country. Moving to the States gave me unique opportunity, as well as fueled my desire to learn the new language. The great opportunities since moving to America wouldn’t have been possible if my mother hasn’t made the sacrifices that she made. Her decision to relocate our family to a new country had a great impact on our whole family, but mostly my mom. She based the choice on the great opportunities my brother and I would encounter if we lived in a country such as the Unites States. In order to give us a better shot in life, my mom left her job, friends and family. She had a difficult time adjusting to her new work place because everything around her was being spoken in a language that she didn’t understand. Seeing my mom give up such a big part of her life just to make mine better has really influenced me. Being given this great opportunity inspired me to do great in school so that one day I c ould make my mom proud of what I’ve done with my life. Whenever I’m making decisions for the future I always keep in mind what my mom has done for me, and if not for her I wouldn’t be able to be blessed with such a promising future. In order to provide me with a life time of opportunities, my mom gave up a big part of her life back in our home country. I’ve learned that because my mom did this for me, I appreciate the opportunities I get and do my best to make my mom proud of the things I achieve in school work. Being influenced by my mom to do great in life keeps me on track and always on a good path. I have the inspiration to become something great because other members of my family, especially my mom, gave up big parts of their life just so I could make something of myself and be able to get better opportunities later in life.
